About Weather Matters
Our History
Weather Matters is an independently edited, student-led publication that emerged from the RAI Anthropology’s ‘Weather and Climate Change’ conference at the British Museum in May 2016. Since then, it has been a platform for interdisciplinary conversation connecting social sciences, humanities, and non-traditional perspectives to explore issues related to climate change and the environment in all their complexity.
Our Goal
We aim to liaise across scholarly disciplines and institutional boundaries and to contribute to a diverse cultural discourse about the manifold ways in which people across the globe give meaning to, foretell, address, and adapt to climate change, local weather patterns, and environmental change.
Our Values
Weather Matters is committed to supporting early-career researchers, including PhD and master’s candidates, and amplifying voices from underrepresented identities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disabled scholars. We strive to create an inclusive and supportive space for processing and discussing climate and environmental issues, where diverse perspectives are welcome and respected. We adhere to ethical research and publication practices by prioritizing integrity and transparency, and working with care.
Our Community
Weather Matters is run by a dedicated board of PhD students and early-career researchers from a range of universities. While our backgrounds and affiliations are varied, our team is united by our commitment to exploring environmental transformations and brings together diverse perspectives and scholarly expertise.
Weather Matters is generously supported by the University of Oxford’s Institute for Science, Innovation, and Society (InSiS)
